Preface and Purpose:

The primary purpose of using Social Media as Marketers is to improve the relationship between a customer and a brand. By using these tools we strive to avoid interruptive messages and increase participation through technology. Marketing through Social Media utilizes the power of online conversation to gain exposure, educate consumers and ultimately result in a deeper connection at the customer’s request.

This code of conduct establishes simple guidelines and best practices to help marketers create genuine conversations around a brand. To survive and thrive, marketers must earn the trust of consumers through open and honest communication.

As Social Media Marketers, We promise to:

1. Be Honest by nurturing the openness of the conversation between marketers and consumers.

2. Understand the Rules of Engagement by remembering that by partaking in Social Media, we are joining a larger community.

3. Respect Privacy and information of community members, employees, and partners.

4. Recognize the Importance of Relationships by keeping in mind that Social Media is a direct, person-to-person connection.

The Golden Rules of Social Media:

• Be truthful; do not attempt to manipulate, misrepresent or deceive your audience
• Stand Against and do not participate in Flogging, Astroturfing or Comment Spamming
• Clearly disclose your identity, products, and offerings in an easy-to-understand manner
• Admit mistakes and correct them promptly
• Respect the explicit and implicit rules of the network and be familiar with regulations before engaging. Follow terms and conditions at all times.
• Never share or sell social media analytics with any 3rd party vendors
• “Spamming” your audience will only hurt your brand and will not boost your reputation.
• Engage as a member of the community, encourage conversations and provide follow through if there are any questions or concerns from fellow members
